Pole barn cost in Idaho: 2026 price guide
Most professionally built pole barns fall between $15 and $40 per square foot installed, according to both HomeGuide (Jan 2026) and Angi (2026). Those are national figures. We haven't found a published Idaho-only cost survey, so use these as a starting band and let local bids set the real number.

Why Idaho bids can land outside the national band
- Snow load. Ground snow loads rise sharply in the Panhandle, the Wood River Valley, and the Teton Valley. Heavier loads mean tighter truss spacing, bigger posts, and more lumber.
- Delivery distance. A 50-mile run from the nearest truss plant adds freight, and some crews charge travel days outside their home county.
- Site work. Basalt in the Snake River Plain and clay in parts of the Treasure Valley both change how posts get set. HomeGuide lists land clearing at $1,200–$8,000 and grading at $0.40–$2.00 per square foot.
- Season. Spring is the busiest booking window. Asking for bids in late summer or fall can give you more crews to choose from.
Ways to keep the number down
- Stick to standard widths (30, 36, 40, 48, 60 ft) that match stock truss lengths.
- Pour the slab later, or just in the shop half of the building.
- Use sliding doors on storage bays and save overhead doors for the bays you drive into every day.
- Plan the lean-to now, even if you build it later, so the posts and roof pitch line up.
